11/11/13 – Has it really been 2 years!

2013-11-11 It has been quite a while since my last post. I thought an update was in order.

Sean just celebrated his 17th birthday yesterday. Today marks 2 years and 1 month since they removed his tumor. He is now 6’5 and around 190lbs. We tease him that all those steroids stunted his growth.

It’s funny, I remember when he was in recovery and I just kept telling myself that in a couple of years this will all be a distant memory and everything will be normal again. Not exactly the case….

Don’t get me wrong, he is doing wonderfully and there are no fears of relapse or anything like that (which we are forever thanking God for his many blessings). But in some areas we have to adjust and accept our new normal. The truth is there are things he will never do quite as well as he did before and he has had to let go of a lot of dreams. Other things he can still do but it takes twice the time and twice the determination.

The key for Sean…. just live in the day and ENJOY it. We are so blessed and he doesn’t let things get him down (most of the time). Now more than ever I think we all realize what is important. He is alive and making the best of his abilities and passions with God’s guidance and glory. I don’t worry…. he is going to do amazing things with his life because he is stronger and richer than most.

He is a survivor! Survivors are the same people they were before the cancer, yet they are completely different all at the same time. Just remember that if you are blessed to love, know or meet one.
