Want to start your own business? Where to begin…

2018-12-10 Like many people in America, you’ve probably thought to yourself, “I’d love to start my own business. But, I wouldn’t know where to begin.” There are so many things to consider when you are thinking about taking the leap into owning a business. Sadly, many people try to start without considering some key factors. Whether you start with Brainy Bytes or another company, here are some things that you should consider before taking the first step:

  1. Your Abilities and Passions:

Steve Jobs said, “The only way to do great work is to do what you love.” Starting a business with which you are not compatible is the worst mistake you could make. It defeats the purpose that most people have in starting their own business – to get out of doing something they don’t like to make money for someone else. So, follow your passions. But be realistic about your abilities and you can make a difference in your life and the lives your business reaches.

  1. Your Time & Finances:

Two of the main things that stop people from taking the leap into their own small business are time and finances. The temptation is to quit the job you’re working and begin on your own. However, being realistic about start-ups is key. There does need to be some financial stability to start your own business. Ideally, you want six months (or even more) of income saved. Look at your time. How much time goes into the daily process of running the business? Consider an opportunity that allows you to stay at your current job until your business starts to make a profit.

  1. Stepping Out of Your Comfort Zone

Doing something new is always uncomfortable. To do something that you’re passionate about can sometimes mean learning new things. Running a successful business requires wearing many hats in the beginning. In order to accomplish your goal, you have to be willing to step outside of your comfort zone to gain knowledge. The beauty of it is, once you learn these new skills, your comfort zone grows larger. This puts you in a cycle to constantly grow yourself and your business.

  1. Your Staying Power

Success doesn’t happen overnight. Confucius said, “It does not matter how slowly you go, as long as you do not stop.” This is true in life and in business. Every successful business story has its ups and downs. Many major companies that you know today would not exist if the person that started them didn’t have determination to keep going in the face of adversity. It takes someone with patience, perseverance and passion to stay the road to success.

Many people consider starting their own business everyday. You could be one of the few that actually take the next step and do it. Be honest. Consider carefully. Then, step out of that comfort zone and change your life and the lives in your community with your business!
